Surveys
Longitudinal data that captures student perspectives and student-reported information are critical parts of our institution’s research. Data summaries are available to administrators and faculty for the purposes of decision-making and improvement planning. Our on-going survey projects include, but are not limited to those below.
UTEP New Student Survey
UTEP Graduating Senior Surveys
UTEP Campus Experience Survey
National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE)

Analysis of Survey Instruments
A preliminary analysis of longitudinal data from the New Student Survey of 2002 through 2005 was conducted in Summer 2007 to evaluate information that may be useful in UTEP’s institutional research projects and determine what kinds of changes might improve the instrument. Our first analysis focused on students’ self-reported self-confidence and expectations, and on students’ self-ratings of skills important for doing well in college. Our preliminary findings pose both insights and questions about new students’ perspectives of themselves and college life. Our analysis of this data continues.
Development of Online Survey Infrastructure
In Fall 2005, CIERP began reviewing the processes and procedures involved in administering UTEP’s larger institutional surveys such as the New Student Survey and Graduating Senior Survey. CIERP’s survey team envisioned a survey research infrastructure that would:
¨ provide a mechanism for making survey results available to colleges in a timely manner with on-demand, online access that meets basic reporting needs,
¨ have the technological resources necessary to meet the needs of the University’s colleges and departments that may seek assistance from CIERP, and
¨ engages others from the UTEP community in reassessing the surveys conducted.
In Fall 2006, CIERP’s survey team began launching its larger surveys on the Web, and continues to work toward making survey administration student-friendly and report access user-friendly.
