The Research, Survey and Evaluation Group conducts institutional research and evaluations as part of grant-funded projects and in collaborative efforts with a variety of University divisions and colleges. Over the years, the results of this research have helped shape University policy and decision-making. Our group also coordinates and administers institutional surveys such as the annual New Student Survey, Graduating Senior Survey, and the bi-annual Campus Experience Survey. Denise Carrejo, Assistant Director and Group Leader

As Assistant Director at CIERP, Denise leads the Research, Survey and Evaluation group on a wide variety of projects that are largely centered on student success. At CIERP, Denise leads research and reporting efforts on the UTEP Student Success Project funded by Lumina Foundation. Denise also manages program evaluation efforts for RISE, Bridges and SCORE, which aim to improve the success of UTEP students and faculty in the STEM areas. She recently led efforts to administer more institutional surveys online and increase the accessibility of survey data by the University community. Denise brings professional experience from her past as a program evaluator with the Austin Independent School District, where she designed evaluations, analyzed data, and prepared reports for stakeholders about federal and locally funded programs and initiatives. Denise holds a B.A. in Psychology from Yale University and a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).


 

  


Angelina Gleichauf, Research Associate

Angelina's focus is on survey research and reporting of results. With her market research experience in the broadcasting industry in Singapore, Angelina brings considerable experience in data analysis and project management. Angelina earned a B.B.A. with a double major in Finance and Marketing, and a M.S. in Political Science with a concentration area in Research Methodology from the University of Oregon.


Bereket Weldeslassie, Research Assistant

  As a Research Assistant, Bereket is responsible for the statistical analyses conducted for the UTEP Student Success Project funded by Lumina Foundation. He also provides statistical expertise to other research and analysis projects at CIERP. Bereket first joined the Center as a Graduate Intern and began work with the Research Group to identify factors that affect student attrition, persistence and graduation. Currently, Bereket is using an event history modeling technique to gain more understanding about student attrition, persistence and graduation behaviors. Bereket holds a M.S in Statistics from the University of Texas at El Paso, and a B.A. in Statistics and Demography from the University of Asmara, in Eritrea, where he worked in the Testing department.


 Larissa Schmersal, Evaluation Coordinator

Larissa is involved in many aspects of the research, survey, and evaluation group’s work. She assists with report writing and editing, program and institutional evaluation, and survey administration. Larissa joined CIERP in the summer of 2007 as a graduate student intern and eventually transitioned into a fulltime staff position. She is currently a doctoral student in the Legal Psychology Program at UTEP.

 


 Sally Rochel, Undergraduate Research Assistant

Sally joined the CIERP team in fall 2008 as a part-time student research assistant. She provides assistance with development and implementation of various institutional surveys such as the New Student Survey, Alumni Survey, and Graduating Senior Survey and helps prepare statistical reports that evaluate program effectiveness. She is currently pursing a bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Business Management. Her involvement in psychology research laboratories has enhanced her level of understanding research methodologies and increased her interest in conducting further empirical research. She is also involved in various student leadership organizations on campus. Upon graduation, she plans to attend graduate school with a concentration in Forensic Psychology with a specialization in youth.
