This project focused on reviewing major institutional, system, State and other documents to facilitate a SWOT analysis that resulted in the development of strategic recommendations, and the restatement of mission and vision. This activity supported the work of UTEP’s Strategic Thinking Committee.

Operations Plan
This project focused on creating a framework to operationalize the strategic plan, particularly the linking of institutional plans to department and unit plans, and of strategic actions to metrics that are in accountability reports.

Strategic Planning Software
The project brought together the CIERP Planning and Policy Group and the Information Resources and Planning’s (IRP) Instructional Support Services group to create software that will support operational planning. In particular, the software allows departments and units to align their activities with institutional goals, objectives, strategies and tactics, and it links activities to institutional outcomes that are tracked in the accountability report.

Legislative Budget Board Performance Measures
LBB Performance Measures are submitted bi-annually, in fall and spring semesters. Trends are analyzed and results are shared with senior administrators. LBB Performance measures are aligned to institutional activities through the operational plan.

Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Accountability System
This project focuses on evaluating data that is generated by the THECB accountability report. An internal system was developed to produce and analyze trends prior to the official production of the report by the THECB. The analysis is shared with senior administrators and is also used to generate contextual comments that are included in the THECB report. Metrics from the THECB Accountability Report are also aligned to institutional activities through the operational plan. More...

Enrollment Management Planning
This project focuses on developing models to link enrollment variables to financial variables and to factors that affect student retention and graduation. Three different economic models are being developed to support this analysis. The data from this analysis will be forwarded to the Enrollment Management Committee.

Tuition Impact Study
This project supported the development of econometric models that help to explain the impact of UTEP tuition, competitor’s tuition and other economic factors related to UTEP enrollment and retention.

SACS Self Study of Continuous Improvement System
This year-long project evaluated UTEP’s planning system and identified areas for improvement. As part of the project, annual plans (Compacts) for each unit were reviewed to evaluate continuous improvement efforts.

Graduation Rates Presentation
This project focused on understanding the limitations of cohort graduation rates, and resulted in findings that less than 30% of our graduates each academic year are included in the cohort model. These and other findings from this research shaped the presentation given by the President to regional, state and national groups. More...

Survey of Earned Doctorates
The project summarizes the periodic report by the National Opinion Research Center (NORC). The analysis showed that UTEP was one of the top ten institutions of baccalaureate origin for U.S. Research doctorate recipients in 2005.

Transfer Students
This project summarizes a new report on transfer students generated by the THECB. The analysis revealed that students who completed their core courses were just as successful, in terms of first-year GPAs, as students who completed an associate’s degree.
